Danny Welbeck hailed England's overall team performance as his two goals seal 2-0 victory in Switzerland
Danny Welbeck hailed England’s overall team performance as his two goals fired the Three Lions to a 2-0 victory over Switzerland in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier.
The striker, playing his first competitive game since his transfer from Manchester United to Arsenal, set the visitors on their way in Basel when he finished with his shin in the 59th minute, before adding a well-taken second in stoppage time.
We showed good work ethic, with everyone playing for each other
Roy Hodgson’s men had large spells of dominance before the 23-year-old broke the deadlock as they sealed victory.
“We created a number of chances in the first half where the final pass was missing,” said Welbeck.
“But once we got the goal we were in control. It was a good team performance overall.
“There was a little bit of relief because we had chances before that and could have done better with them.
“We showed good work ethic, with everyone playing for each other.”
