Arsenal transfers: Gunners DID want to sign me, says Nikola Zigic
Arsenal transfers: Nikola Zigic insists that the Gunners were keen on signing the striker this summer
Nikola Zigic insists the reports claiming that he was in talks about a potential move to Arsenal this summer were true.
The Gunners were linked with a surprise move for the striker after Olivier Giroud’s long-term injury, with the forward’s agent saying that he had held talks with the north London club.
I am very happy because Arsenal had me on their list
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger dismissed the reports before the Gunners moved to bring in Danny Welbeck from Manchester United on deadline day.
But the former Birmingham City striker insists that Arsenal were indeed keen on bringing him to Emirates Stadium.
“Everything that you saw in the press was true,” Zigic told IBTimes.
“My agent was talking with Arsenal but they finally opted for another player [Welbeck].
“We talked with them until the last days of the market. I am very happy because Arsenal had me on their list.
“I would have liked [to join them] but big teams always consider several alternatives.”
