Luiz Gustavo has dealt Arsenal’s hopes of signing the midfielder a blow by insisting that he is happy at Wolfsburg.

The Gunners were linked with a move for the Brazilian during the summer transfer window but a move away from the Bundesliga club failed to materialise.

Now, the 27-year-old has declared his desire to stay in Germany and sees himself at the club “for many years”.

“I am very happy, VfL Wolfsburg is a great club to play for and I like living in Germany and the German mentality,” Gustavo told Bild.

“I feel my future is here and I am able to imagine playing on for many years, because I identify with the city of Wolfsburg.

“Wolfsburg is a workers’ city, this suits me.”

Gustavo has made three appearances for Wolfsburg so far this season.
