Calum Chambers says Per Mertesacker has been a massive help since the England defender joined Arsenal.

The 19-year-old has seen plenty of first-team action since his £16m move to the north London side from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

He talks me through things, not just about football but off the pitch as well

Chambers has been filling in at right-back over the past week following Mathieu Debuchy’s injury blow, helping Arsenal keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 win at Aston Villa.

And the England international revealed that World Cup winner Mertesacker has been giving the former Southampton youth product plenty of advice in recent weeks.

“Per Mertesacker, who I get along really well with, has also been really helpful,” Chambers said.

“He talks me through things, not just about football but off the pitch as well, like what I should focus on. So everyone really has chipped in and has given me advice.”

Chambers was quick to take to Instagram on Saturday night after helping Arsenal secure their first shutout of the season against Aston Villa.

Chambers posted on Instagram: “Buzzing to get a win and a clean sheet! Thank you to all the travelling fans for your support.”
