Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck like Liverpool legend, says Phil Neville
Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville believes Danny Welbeck can become one of best "defensive centre forwards"
Phil Neville believes Arsenal star Danny Welbeck can become the best “defensive centre forward” in the Premier League.
The Arsenal forward enjoyed an impressive first half at Villa Park after teeing up Mesut Ozil for the opener before scoring his first Gunners goal in the 34th minute.
Welbeck was criticised after missing a couple of chances as Arsenal were soundly beaten 2-0 by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
But former United defender Neville believes the £16m signing shares similarities with Liverpool legend Ian Rush in terms of his ability to disrupt opposition defenders.
“When Ian Rush used to play for Liverpool people said he was the best defensive centre forward in the league, and Danny Welbeck is just the same,” Neville told BBC Sport.
“He harries defenders and chases down every ball.”
Welbeck has scored four goals in his last three Premier League games against Aston Villa for Arsenal and Manchester United.
The 23-year-old signed a five-year deal with the north London side on the final day of the summer transfer window after Arsenal agreed a £16m deal.
