Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reveals that Jack Wilshere has been working on his finishing after Gunners strike
Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere has been working on his finishing after the Arsenal midfielder scored in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Saturday.
The England international answered his critics with an impressive solo effort to help cancel out Sergio Aguero’s first-half strike for the reigning champions at Emirates Stadium.
I’ve always told him the best way to answer your critics is on the pitch and he did it
Arsenal appeared to be heading towards a morale-boosting win after Alexis Sanchez’s first-time volley, but Martin Demichelis rescued a point for the Citizens with eight minutes remaining.
But Gunners manager Wenger took positives from Wilshere’s performance against Manuel Pellegrini’s side, insisting that the England midfielder had answered his critics.
“When you have his talent, the most important thing is to go on the pitch every week and show how good you are,” Wenger said.
“He works on it [his finishing] and I believe for a long time he didn’t kick the ball well because of his ankle.
“Now in training he kicks the ball well and he works on his finishing. Not excessively because first he’s a midfielder and you want him to give good balls.
“He looked dangerous in the first half as well because he has found his pace back. That for a while was not the case so I’m very happy.
