Bayern Munich

Manuel Neuer Didn’t have a lot to do and his determination to punch the ball did not command confidence. 6/10

Rafinha Posed a threat playing as a right wing-back in a re-shuffle from Guardiola. Quick down the wing. Lacked the sharpness in the second half. 6

Mehdi Benatia Solid as part of a back three, dealt with everything City threw at him, tried hard to create a threat in the final third. 6

Jerome Boateng Struggled with the physicality of Dzeko at times but quashed a number of threatening wide moves from City. Pushed forward in the last 20 minutes and got the decisive goal with a thunderous effort. 7

Juan Bernat Threatened to break the deadlock in the second half and did get into some decent areas. 5

Xabi Alonso Took a physical approach in trying to make a statement in midfield, distributed the ball well and tracked back to cover David Silva confidently. 6

Jordi Alaba Denied by Joe Hart after a brilliant effort, switched into the midfield after starting in a back five for Bayern. 7

Philip Lahm Operated well in the centre of the park and linked up well with Alaba. Left frustrated at times in attack, saw a rare attempt on goal drift wide. 6

Mario Gotze Quiet for most of the game, had one big chance early in the second half but couldn’t generate the power to threaten. 5

Thomas Mueller Missed a guilt-edged chance in the first minute, and was denied a brilliant goal by Joe Hart. Looked sharp before being replaced by Arjen Robben in the 76th minute. 7

Robert Lewandowski Had a few chances which he couldn’t capitalise on, drifted well to link up with the midfield, but couldn’t provide the threat to get a goal. 6

Arjen Robben Could have had a penalty but his reputation for the theatrical perhaps swayed the decision against the Dutch international. Looked sharp from the outset and would have caused more problems if he had have started. 6

Dante Didn’t have long enough to make an impact when replacing Benatia. N/A

Pizarro Replaced Rafinha late on and was involved in the build up to the Boateng goal. 5

Manchester City

Joe Hart Made a wonderful one-handed reaction save to deny Muller, before making a host of good stops. Sharp off his line to close down Lewandowski. Another fine stop against Boateng before being unlucky to concede late on. 8

Bacary Sagna Struggled to cope with the pace of Muller early on, but was resolute in defence and provided an attacking option at the set-piece. Solid on the right, keeping Alaba and Gotze under wraps. 6

Martin Demichelis Didn’t do too much wrong but was lucky Muller missed after the Argentinian was left for dead by the German international in the first minute. 6

Vincent Kompany A rock defensively, marshalling a back four looking short of pace with Demichelis and Sagna leaving the skipper plenty to do at times. Always looked to get forward in attacking moves. 7

Gael Clichy Solid in defence, but lacked many opportunities in attack. Kept Robben at bay late in the game. 5

Fernandinho Took the initiative in the centre of midfield, imposing himself on the Bayern players. Worked tirelessly in the centre of the park. Was fortunate not to have a penalty given against him for a handball. 5

Yaya Toure A menace in the middle of the park, cleaning up in front of the back four with discipline, before spreading the ball wide to expose a threat down the flank. Was allowed the space to break free in the second half but couldn’t break the deadlock. 7

Jesus Navas Sharp on the ball, moving the play around well linking up City’s counter-attack. 6

David Silva The usual passing brilliance from the pint-sized Spaniard. Faultless in the first 45, distributing the ball with precision and accuracy. 7

Samir Nasri Frustrating night for the Frenchman, didn’t get the opportunities he would have liked and was starved of the ball at times. Replaced by Milner just short of the hour mark. 6

Edin Dzeko Came close to breaking the deadlock in the first half with a fine curling effort but had little in the way of consistent service playing on his own up front. Replaced by Sergio Aguero for the last fifteen minutes. 6

James Milner Brought on to solidify the midfield and almost created a goal straight away only to see Silva send his header wide of the Bayern goal. 7

Sergio Aguero Had a half chance late on but couldn’t find the goal for his side. Arguably should have started but was carrying a niggle. 6

Aleksandar Kolarov Left Boateng in far too much space to allow the shot for the goal in his only action in the five minutes he got. 4
