Daniel Agger has hailed Brendan Rodgers as an “incredibly talented manager” despite having his differences with the Liverpool boss.

The Denmark international sealed a return to Brondby in the summer transfer window after being deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield.

He’s an extremely, extremely competent coach

Agger played a bit-part role in Liverpool’s title challenge last season as the 29-year-old struggled with injuries and to convince Rodgers.

Whilst the FA Cup winner expressed his frustration at being omitted from the Reds side, Agger had nothing but praise for the Northern Irishman’s managerial ability.

“I think he is an incredibly talented manager,” Agger told TV3 Sport.

“You can’t take that away from him. He’s good in the way he trains and he is clever in the way he sets the team up.

“He’s an extremely, extremely competent coach.”

Agger continued: “The things that went wrong between us is that I say things the way they are and I expect others to treat me the same way.

“Maybe it is wrong to always expect this.”

Agger admitted that he was frustrated to play a number of successive games but be dropped for no reason last season, appearing to criticise Rodgers for failing to explain the defender’s omission.

“When you are a part of the starting eleven for several games in a row and the team have performed well, and you feel that you have played well, then you are left out of the team and don’t feel appreciated, it starts to get pray on your mind and you wonder,” Agger continued.

“Then at the same time you see the statistics from your game – which are so important all around the world of football- and you don’t understand why you weren’t used more often.”
