Mario Melchiot hailed Raheem Sterling as a “great player” after the Liverpool forward handed his side a lifeline at Upton Park.
The Hammers stormed into an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Winston Reid and Diafra Sakho in the opening seven minutes in east London.
However, Sterling got on the end of a loose ball following a Mario Balotelli attempt and rifled a finish past West Ham goalkeeper Adrian.
