Cesar Azpilicueta says he is happy to pen a new five-year deal to keep the defender at Chelsea until 2019.

The Spain international committed his future to the west London club on Tuesday, capping what has been a standout year for the full-back.

Azpilicueta usurped England legend Ashley Cole as Chelsea’s first-choice left-back under Jose Mourinho last season despite being predominantly right-footed.

The Spaniard, who has eight caps for la Roja, is facing competition from summer signing Filipe Luis for a first-team spot this season.

And 25-year-old took to his Twitter to express his joy at securing another five years at Chelsea after moving to the Blues from Marseille in 2012.

The former Osasuna defender has scored one goal in 93 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, helping the London side win the Europa League in 2013.
