Cesc Fabregas has revealed that Mesut Ozil’s arrival at Arsenal prevented him from sealing a move back to the north London club this summer.

The 27-year-old joined Chelsea from Barcelona in June after the Gunners turned down the option to re-sign the midfielder, who spent eight years at the club before his move to Camp Nou in 2011.

No problem. We move on. Life moves on. Football moves on

Fabregas has revealed that Arsene Wenger opted not to bring the playmaker back to Emirates Stadium because the Gunners already had Ozil to fill his role.

But the midfielder, who has made six assists in six games since joining Chelsea, insists that he holds no grudges against his former employers.

“I was always going back to the Premier League because, to me, there’s no other league around the world that’s better than it,” Fabregas told the Sun.

“Arsenal had the first option – it was written in the contract – and so they could have said ‘yes’ but they decided not to. They told me now Ozil was there, there was no need for me.

“That’s life. No problem. We move on. Life moves on. Football moves on.”
