The England duo looked sharp at White Hart Lane on Sunday as Sturridge played a key role in the 19-year-old’s opener in a 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
If you keep them [Sterling and Sturridge] fit and supply them, Liverpool have a brilliant chance
Sturridge scored 21 goals in 29 Premier League appearances last season, whilst teenager Sterling netted nine goals in 33 top-flight games.
Whilst the Chelsea legend was impressed by the performances of new signings Dejan Lovren and Alberto Moreno, Nevin pinpointed Sterling and Sturridge as the key players for Brendan Rodgers this season.
“You’re always worried about the defence but Dejan Lovren and he is looking pretty smart there,” Nevin told Newstalk.
“I was really impressed by Moreno, especially after his mistake against Manchester City when he didn’t go for the ball. He took his eye off it and Liverpool lost the first goal. However, his response was fantastic.
“The players that have come in seem to be doing quite well. Mario hasn’t rocked the boat yet and that is nearly a whole week!”
Nevin continued: “In the end, it is Sterling and Sturridge. They are fantastic. If you keep them fit and supply them, Liverpool have a brilliant chance.”
