Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits he would have preferred that Fernando Torres joined Inter instead of AC Milan
Jose Mourinho has joked that he wanted Fernando Torres to join Inter Milan instead of their bitter rivals AC Milan.
The Spain international completed a season-long loan move to the seven-time European champions last weekend after a mixed spell at the Blues.
He’s a fantastic boy and a great professional. However, he needed a change of scenery
Mourinho snapped up Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy in a £10.5m deal to replace the 30-year-old striker, who moved to Chelsea in a £50m deal in 2011.
And the Blues manager was disappointed to see Torres join Milan as opposed to Inter, who the Portuguese coach led to treble glory in 2010.
“However, I hope that he does equally well at Milan. What I can say about Fernando is that as a person and a professional, there is nothing to doubt about him,” Mourinho is quoted as saying.
“He’s a fantastic boy and a great professional. However, he needed a change of scenery.”
Torres scored 20 goals in 110 Premier League appearances for the west London side.
