Michael Essien believes Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea side will be a “football force” over the next 10 years.

The Blues are three points clear at the top of the Premier League table after a 1-1 draw with Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Chelsea have become a football force in Europe in the last ten years and I can see that carrying on for the next ten years or more

Mourinho’s men are the only unbeaten side left in the English top-flight after beating Burnley, Leicester, Everton and Swansea City this term.

And former Blues midfielder Essien, who is currently at AC Milan, is backing the west London side to win silverware this season.

“I think they’ll do well as always,” Essien told Fifa’s website.

“Jose has rebuilt the team in his own image now and they’ll fight for everything this season.

“They have to ability to win things and that’s what they’ll be doing.

“Chelsea have become a football force in Europe in the last ten years and I can see that carrying on for the next ten years or more.”

Chelsea begin their Capital One Cup campaign against Bolton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
