Cristiano Ronaldo underlines his status as the most popular sportsperson on Twitter after surpassing 30 million followers

Cristiano Ronaldo has underlined his status as the most popular sportsperson on Twitter after surpassing 30 million followers on the social network.

Ronaldo’s is the 13th most-followed account on Twitter, behind the likes of Katy Perry, Justin Beiber and Barack Obama.

The 29-year-old Real Madrid and Portugal star tweeted his delight at reaching the landmark on Wednesday evening.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is the sixth-most followed sportsperson on Twitter with 9.9 million followers.
