Daley Blind has revealed that he responded to the news that he was set to join Manchester United by drinking a glass of wine with his parents.

The defender is expected to be officially confirmed as a Red Devils player on transfer deadline day after United announced a £13.8m agreement with Ajax on Saturday.

And the 24-year-old has lifted the lid on how he was told about the news of the agreement between the two clubs.

“I got a call on Friday night [telling me] that the clubs had agreed a deal,” Blind said.

“I was with my girlfriend and we went to my parents to drink a glass of wine.

“I am enormously proud to be at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Everything has happened so suddenly.

“What exactly has gone off in the background, only my agent and my dad know, but it was a very exciting and tense time.”
