Daniel Sturridge heaps praise on Liverpool debutants Jordan Rossiter and Jordan Williams after the Reds beat Middlesbrough on penalties in the League Cup.

Rossiter, who has been likened to Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, scored inside 10 minutes of debut to break the deadlock in the third-round tie at Anfield.

The 17-year-old midfielder was replaced by Williams in the second half after the Championship side levelled through Middlesbrough star Adam Reach.

Suso appeared to have scored a winner in the 109th minute before Patrick Bamford scored in the final minutes of extra-time to force penalties.

18-year-old Williams held his nerve to dispatch his spot-kick in the nerve-wracking shootout, before Boro winger Albert Adomah missed in front of the Kop.

And Sturridg, who is currently injured, took to his Twitter account on Wednesday morning to hail Rossiter and Williams for impressive debut performances.

Liverpool, who have won the competition a record eight times, are bidding to win their first piece of silverware since their Capital One Cup triumph in 2012.
