Danny Welbeck gives Arsenal different dimension, says Alan Curbishley
Former Hammers boss Alan Curbishley says Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck could come back to haunt Manchester United
Danny Welbeck has given Arsenal a different dimension since joining from Manchester United, according to Alan Curbishley.
The Gunners striker scored his first goal for the north London side as Arsene Wenger’s men were 3-1 winners at Aston Villa on Saturday.
He has given them a different dimension. The more games he plays, he could come back and haunt Manchester United
And former West Ham United manager Curbishley tipped Welbeck to come back and haunt the Red Devils after his £16m switch to The Emirates.
“Danny Welbeck is a centre forward but wants to get in behind defences. Olivier Giroud wants to come towards the ball,” Curbishley told Sky Sports News.
“As a back four, you’re quite happy to see the centre forward in front of you, you don’t want them to go in behind you.
“Danny Welbeck loves to do that. He has given them a different dimension. The more games he plays, he could come back and haunt Manchester United.
“Welbeck wasn’t able to command a regular place at Old Trafford. He was played wide. He did a job for the club.
“Now he is at a side that can make chances for him. He can appreciate their passing ability and they’ll appreciate his runs behind.
“I think it is a marvellous signing for Arsenal.”
