Danny Welbeck: I envisaged playing for Arsenal before deadline day move
Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck believes the Gunners are a side on the up after sealing £16m move to The Emirates
Danny Welbeck has revealed that he envisaged playing for Arsenal before sealing a move to The Emirates on deadline day.
The England striker signed a long-term contract with the Gunners on Monday after the north London side struck a £16m deal with bitter rivals Manchester United.
I’ve envisaged myself playing in this team before. For it to finally happen is very exciting
The 23-year-old striker scored nine goals in 25 Premier League appearances last season but was deemed surplus to requirements by manager Louis van Gaal.
And Welbeck is excited to be joining the FA Cup winners, adding that he feels Arsenal are a side on the up following the arrivals of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
“It’s exciting times for me. It’s great to be a part of this club and it’s a team that I’ve always watched in the Premier League,” Welbeck told Arsenal’s website.
“I’ve envisaged myself playing in this team before. For it to finally happen is very exciting.”
Welbeck added: “They’ve done well in recent years and last year we got the FA Cup and I feel like it’s time where we could really push on and try and challenge for the Premier League title. I’ve got one medal and it’s something that I really want to add to.”
Welbeck won the Premier League and two League Cups during a six-year career in the United first-team.
