Danny Welbeck: Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling causes defenders problems
England match-winner Danny Welbecks talks up Raheem Sterling's qualities after a 2-0 win in Switzerland
Danny Welbeck has praised Raheem Sterling’s ability to cause opposition defenders problems after England’s 2-0 win in Switzerland on Monday.
The Arsenal striker scored twice in the second half in Basel to help the Three Lions secure an opening victory in their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.
I think Raheem was very good tonight and I enjoy playing together with him
19-year-old Sterling played a part in both of Welbeck’s goals as Roy Hodgson’s England side punished their Group E opponents on the counter-attack.
And Welbeck, who has scored 10 goals in 28 England appearances, talked up his burgeoning partnership with the Liverpool forward.
“Raheem has been a problem for so many defenders in the Premier League,” Welbeck told FA’s website.
“I love playing with Raheem – he is a player that I know and once he is one the ball he can get forward. That is something that I like because I can make runs in behind and playing one-twos and bounce off each other.
“It is the same with many other attackers in the team so I think Raheem was very good tonight and I enjoy playing together with him.”
