Danny Welbeck will wear the number 23 shirt for Arsenal following his transfer from Manchester United.

The England international signed a long-term contract with the Gunners on on transfer deadline day after the north London club agreed a fee of around £16m with United.

Arsenal confirmed that Welbeck would wear the shirt number previously held by Andrey Arshavin, Nicklas Bendtner and Sol Campbell via a post on their official Instagram account.

The north London club posted the picture above and wrote: “An #Instagram exclusive – the new shirt number for Danny #Welbeck. #WelcomeWelbeck #afc #Arsenal #coyg”

Welbeck, who is currently on international duty with England, could make his debut for the Gunners in the Premier League home match against Manchester City on 13 September.

The England international is Arsène Wenger’s fifth signing of the summer after the Arsenal manager landed £35m forward Alexis Sánchez, Calum Chambers, David Ospina and Mathieu Debuchy.

Theo Walcott and Mikel Arteta are among the players to have taken to social media to welcome Welbeck to Arsenal following the transfer.
