Ex-Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson ‘disappointed’ with Shinji Kagawa flop
Sir Alex Ferguson was disappointed to see Shinji Kagawa leave Manchester United, according to Jürgen Klopp
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken about his disappointment at seeing Shinji Kagawa leave Manchester United.
The Japan international completed a £6.3m move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window, ending a largely unhappy two-year spell at Old Trafford.
Kagawa struggled to make an impression at United due to a string of injuries and a loss of form, although the 24-year-old was part of the 2013 title-winning squad.
And Dortmund manager Klopp lifted the lid on his conversation with Kagawa’s former United manager.
“I met Sir Alex in Nyon and he’s still in love with Shinji,” Dortmund boss Klopp told The Sun. “He told me, ‘Shame we didn’t manage this well so that it worked out for him. We were satisfied in the first year’.
“And in the second year you usually make the next step but he didn’t manage to do it. But Sir Alex was saying ‘Shame we should have made this work’.”
