Fabio Borini says he is determined to prove his worth and earn a first-team place at Liverpool.

The Italy international turned down a move to Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the summer transfer window, failing to agree a deal with the Hoops.

I made the decision and it is my job to prove I can be worth a place

Fabio Borini

Borini is facing a competition from Daniel Sturridge, Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert for a starting spot in Brendan Rodgers’s side this season.

But the 23-year-old, who scored nine goals during a season-long loan last season, isn’t fazed by the battle for a place at the 18-time English champions.

“I have committed to the club, and I want to earn a place in the side,” Borini told Daily Mirror.

“It is my aim to return to the team and to score goals for Liverpool. I know it will not be easy, it will be very challenging. But I am motivated.

“Yes, I heard some criticism, but I made the decision and it is my job to prove I can be worth a place. That’s what I aim to do now.

“I know that it is a real challenge now to find a space in the Liverpool side, because the competition here is so great, and there are many good players. But for me, that should be a motivation, not a problem.”
