Fabregas, Lineker and more: Twitter reacts as Chelsea draw with Schalke
Cesc Fàbregas and Gary Lineker both tweet their thoughts after Chelsea draw 1-1 with Schalke in the Champions League
Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by Schalke in their Champions League opener at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Cesc Fàbregas scored his first Chelsea goal in the 11th minute to put the home side in control of the Group G clash before missing a clear-cut chance to double the Blues’s lead before half-time.
But the Bundesliga side levelled through Klaas-Jan Huntelaar with 28 minutes remaining to earn a point from the game.
The match prompted a spark of activity on Twitter – and here are some of our favourite updates.
Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) isn’t impressed by the English teams’ showings this week: “Not a particularly strong statement from the Premier League sides in the opening round of CL matches!”
Frank Sinclair (@FrankMSinclair) was surprised to see Didier Drogba get the nod up front for the Blues: “Bad result for @chelseafc tonight the special one got this one wrong, Drogba can’t play CL b4 before Costa or Remy ,lesson learned today.”
Goal-scorer Cesc Fàbregas (@cesc4official) is in resilient mood shortly after the final whistle: “We won’t give up!”
Former Wigan Athletic man Mike Pollitt (@MikePollitt12) is worried about the influx of foreign talent: “Just the 5 English players out of 36 on show tonight for City/Chelsea! Dear me 3 started, we wonder why..!”
DJ and Chelsea fan Trevor Nelson (@DJTrevorNelson) agrees with Sinclair: “Got total respect for the Drog, but still scratching my head as to why he started tonight.”
And finally, former Manchester United defender Phil Neville (@fizzer18) was impressed by Arsenal target Julian Draxler: “Draxler been really good for schalke tonight”
