Fernando Torres says that the desire for a “new challenge” was the main factor behind his transfer from Chelsea to AC Milan.

The 30-year-old Spaniard joined the Serie A club on a two-year loan deal last weekend after spending three-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge.

And speaking at his unveiling in Milan, Torres underlined his desire to regain his top form as the reason for his switch to Italy.

“I thank Liverpool and Chelsea for everything they gave me, but I felt it was the right moment to change,” said Torres.

“When the chance to join Milan presented itself, I accepted and I am looking to score lots of goals again. I needed a new challenge.

“A new adventure is about to begin and I hope to achieve what I have done in my previous experiences.

“I hope to spend many years at Milan, full of success and trophies. I am very happy.”

Torres scored 45 goals in a 172 games for Chelsea after his move from Liverpool in 2011.
