Former Arsenal striker hails Danny Welbeck as ‘clever bit of business’
Former Arsenal striker John Hartson hails Danny Welbeck as a "clever bit of business" after £16m move to The Emirates
John Hartson has hailed Arsenal signing Danny Welbeck as a “clever bit of business”.
The 23-year-old started Arsenal’s clash against champions Manchester City at The Etihad on Saturday, making his Gunners debut.
Welbeck signed a five-year deal with the north London side on the final day of the transfer window after Arsenal agreed a £16m deal for the forward.
Whilst former Arsenal striker Hartson raised questions about Welbeck’s goal-scoring ratio, the Welshman thinks the striker is a good signing.
“Danny Welbeck scored 29 goals in 140 games for Manchester United, which was not prolific enough,” Ha If he had scored more he would still be there but he was always in the shadow of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie and I feel he didn’t play enough.
“He gives Arsenal a different option, everything into Olivier Giroud he faces up but Welbeck is a willing runner. He has shown before he can take responsibility and for £16m I think he is a clever bit of business.”
