Former Liverpool chief praises Man United for ‘smart’ Radamel Falcao deal
Former Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow praises Manchester United for a "smart" Radamel Falcao deal
Manchester United have pulled off quite a smart deal after landing Radamel Falcao, according to Christian Purslow.
The Colombia international has joined the Red Devils on a season-long loan deal from Monaco, costing United a reported £6m.
They have pulled off quite a smart deal at every level
The 20-time English champions are believed to have an option to make the deal permanent at the end of this season if the striker proves a hit.
And former Liverpool managing director Purslow believes the United hierarchy deserve credit after being heavily criticised earlier this summer.
“Edward Woodward and the Manchester United board have had quite a lot of criticism in this window, but they have pulled off quite a smart deal at every level,” Purslow told talkSPORT.
“They could have afforded to sign him outright this summer. The problem is that this player is coming off the back of a cruciate injury.
“If Manchester United paid the asking price, which is €50-60m, and his knee is not quite right, then they are left with him for four years on a huge wage.
“They have decided to give him a year’s salary, which they can comfortably do given all their commercial interests, and decide at the end of the season.
“Maybe this time next year they’ll be back in the Champions League and will complete on the deal.
“It’s an option, not a guaranteed purchase. So, if things don’t work out, he’ll be back at Monaco.”
