Frank Lampard was the “happiest man in the dressing room” after scoring against his former club to earn Manchester City a draw with Chelsea, according to Jamie Redknapp.

The on-loan midfielder netted a late equaliser to cancel out Andre Schurrle’s opener in the 1-1 stalemate at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Lampard, who spent 13 years at Stamford Bridge before his exit this summer, did not celebrate his goal – but Redknapp insists that the veteran midfielder would have been delighted with the strike.

“Don’t be fooled by the non-celebration,” Redknapp wrote in the Daily Mail. “Frank Lampard will have been the happiest man in the dressing room after scoring that goal.

“He is the ultimate goalscoring machine and if he didn’t want to score, what was he doing in the box? He will not have cared one bit about scoring against his old club

“He has perfected the art of arriving late in the area and makes it look so easy. He’s like a magnet to the ball but that’s not down to luck — he has spent a lifetime [scoring those goals].”
