Guinness Pro12: Alan Solomons makes wholesale changes to Edinburgh side for trip to Ospreys
In a week which saw Scotland vote to remain part of the United Kingdom, their Guinness Pro12 representatives are in Wales this weekend.
Edinburgh Rugby takes on the Ospreys at Liberty Stadium on Sunday, with a starting XV of new signings and some familiar faces making a comeback.
Tim Visser returns for the black and red, moving into the back row at number 11. He is joined in the back line by Sam Hidalgo-Clyne after the scrum-half made enough of an impression on Alan Solomons to warrant a starting place.
In the forwards, James Hilterbrand will play hooker, whilst W P Nel comes in at tight-head.
Anton Bresler makes his staring debut for Edinburgh in Wales following his cameo appearance against Connacht in Scotland last week.
Although a commanding figure standing tall at just over six and half feet, the gentle spoken giant talks with a great warmth and humanity as he shared his experiences of Scotland so far with the assembled media.
Bresler spoke about his excitement about Edinburgh’s upcoming fixture in Belfast against Ulster, which will see him reunited with his fellow countryman Franco Van Der Merwe.
Club captain Mike Coman will get the opportunity to lead out his side for the first time this campaign at flanker. The newly-installed club captain’s season has being plighted by injury thus far but Sunday will present him with an opportunity to justify Solomons selection.
Solomons said: “ It will be a real test for us but at the same time a great opportunity for the players selected, playing away from home is a huge challenge and the Ospreys are pretty much at full strength having made a great start to the season.”
Edinburgh have not beaten the Ospreys in Wales since 2009, but they did come away victorious in the last meeting of the pair, winning 31-25.
