Guinness Pro12: Munster confirm the signing of Argentine hooker Eusebio Guiñazú on a four-month contract

Munster have confirmed the signing of Argentine hooker Eusebio Guiñazú on a four-month contract.

The 32-year-old joins the club to ease a growing injury problem in the position with Mike Sherry set to miss the start of the Guinness Pro12 as he recovers from shoulder surgery.

“We need to hit the ground running this season and to do this we need to have a full complement of players available to us,” said Munster head coach Anthony Foley.

“We have short-term setbacks with Niall Scannell rehabbing from wrist injury and Damien Varley managing a foot injury, but with Sherry ruled out until next year it is great that we can call on the services of an experienced versatile player such as Eusebio.

“His availability will certainly help us get through the opening period of the season.”

The Mendoza-born international, who has won 36 caps for the Pumas and was in the squad for their debut in the 2013 Rugby Championship, also spent six seasons in French rugby with Toulon, Agen, Biarritz and Toulouse with a spell in South Africa with the Stormers and Boland Cavaliers.

He was released by Aviva Premiership club Bath this summer after two seasons of limited chances at The Rec and is expected to link up with his new team-mates later this month, subject to a work permit and medical.

Munster have also confirmed that centre Cian Bohane will undergo a scan on Tuesday after picking up a knee injury on in their pre-season win over London Irish on Friday.
