Jose Mourinho: Chelsea were waiting for a player like Diego Costa
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says the Blues were waiting for a player like Diego Costa to join
Jose Mourinho has expressed his delight at how well Diego Costa is fitting in at Chelsea.
The 25-year-old Brazilian-born Spaniard has hit the ground running with four goals in his first three Premier League games for the Blues.
We knew that the team was going in a certain direction and waiting for a player like him to be there
And Chelsea manager Mourinho believes the £32m signing was the perfect recruit for his blossoming Blues side.
“When we bought him, we were very optimistic. His profile as a player and as a person is easy to adapt,” Mourinho said ahead of his side’s clash against Swansea City on Saturday.
The Chelsea boss was also keen to emphasise the importance of the players around Costa as the west London side look to secure back-to-back league wins at Stamford Bridge.
“A player is part of a team and we knew that the team was going in a certain direction and waiting for a player like him to be there,” Mourinho added.
“Three matches, three victories and four goals. A good start.”
Costa will be hoping to add to his tally after scooping the club’s player of the month award for August.
