Juan Mata has welcomed Netherlands defender Daley Blind to Manchester United.

The Ajax defender is expected to be officially confirmed as a Red Devils player on transfer deadline day after United announced a £13.8m agreement with the Eredivisie champions on Saturday.

Blind rose to prominence at the World Cup as the full-back produced a string of eye-catching performances, especially as the Oranje were emphatic 5-1 winners against Mata’s Spain.

And the 26-year-old forward, who moved to Old Trafford from Chelsea in January, hailed new signings Angel di Maria and Blind.

“As you read this, many things are happening before the transfer window expires today,” Mata wrote in his blog, One Hour Behind.

“Here I would like to welcome Di María and Blind to the club. I am sure these two players will give a lot to us and will strengthen the team.

“We already know what Ángel is capable of, his ability and dribbling skills, and Daley has a great touch and is very intelligent, as he showed during the World Cup.”

Blind, 24, has won four Eredivise titles since making his Ajax debut in 2008.
