Juan Mata will miss out in new-look Man United side, says Arsenal legend
Arsenal legend Martin Keown tips Louis van Gaal to drop Juan Mata to accommodate his summer signings
Martin Keown has tipped Louis van Gaal to drop Juan Mata in order to accommodate Radamel Falcao in his new-look Manchester United side.
The Red Devils completed a deadline day move to sign the Colombia international on a season-long loan from Monaco on Monday, costing a reported £6m.
You could play Falcao up top and a three behind of Di Maria, Van Persie and Rooney with Blind and Herrera sitting deep when everyone is fit
Van Gaal signed Daley Blind earlier on the final day of the transfer window, as well as landing Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo this summer.
Arsenal legend Keown reckons Falcao will lead the line, whilst Di Maria, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie will occupy the positions behind the South American.
“He attacks things in the box and loves getting across the face of defenders. He’s brave too. Maybe we’ll now see United put more crosses into the box for their out-and-out No 9. Van Persie takes the corners and free-kicks, Falcao attacks them,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“He made his league debut at 13 and has been banging in goals ever since – he’s a natural born finisher. Mata will miss out. You could play Falcao up top and a three behind of Di Maria, Van Persie and Rooney with Blind and Herrera sitting deep when everyone is fit.”
