Steven Gerrard heaped praise on Alberto Moreno after the new Liverpool left-back scored a stunning solo goal in Sunday’s 3-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 22-year-old, who moved to Anfield from Sevilla this summer, ran the length of the pitch before firing a low finish into the bottom corner to net the visitors’ third goal at White Hart Lane.

And Gerrard was full of praise for the Spaniard, whose mistake had led to Manchester City scoring their opening goal in last week’s 3-1 win at Etihad Stadium.

“Moreno was terrific,” said Gerrard. “He learned from his mistake in midweek. I’m just glad we got that signing over the line.

“I’d watched him quite a bit for Sevilla and seen YouTube clips of him.

“I knew he was a flyer – very quick, very aggressive, both with and without the ball.

“He showed his aggression with the ball with a terrific run and the finish at the end of it was just pure quality.”
