Liverpool have almost as many problems as Manchester United in the race for a top-four finish, Alan Curbishley has claimed.

The Reds suffered a 3-1 loss to West Ham United at Upton Park before Louis van Gaal’s side fell to a surprise 5-3 defeat by newly-promoted Leicester City at King Power Stadium on Sunday.

Liverpool have already lost three Premier League games this season, conceding eight goals in five top-flight games already this season.

And former West Ham boss Curbishley feels the only positive for United is that Liverpool are dropping points too.

“Only good thing for United at the moment, Liverpool are struggling as well,” Curbishley told Sky Sports News.

“Most of us think that it will be out of Liverpool and Manchester United for fourth place.

“So is that the team United have to catch in the top four?”
