Liverpool transfers: Xherdan Shaqiri lifts lid on failed bid
Liverpool transfers: Xherdan Shaqiri claims that the Reds failed in a bid to sign him this summer
Xherdan Shaqiri has claimed that Liverpool failed in a bid to sign him from Bayern Munich before the World Cup.
The Switzerland international was heavily linked with a move to Anfield for much of the summer but a switch failed to materialise before the close of the transfer window last week.
My contract runs until 2016 and I could possibly extend it
Now, the 22-year-old has revealed that the Premier League club tabled an offer for the midfielder but Bayern refused to do business.
And he also hinted that he is set to extend his stay with the Bundesliga champions.
“Liverpool made a bid for me before the World Cup but Bayern put their foot down and told me, ‘We’re not going to sell you’,” Shaqiri is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News HQ.
“My contract runs until 2016 and I could possibly extend it. I will consider my decision during the winter break.”
