Robbie Fowler is confident Liverpool will become a “major force” ahead of their return to Champions League football.

The Reds face Real Madrid, Basel and Ludogorets in Group B after securing a return to Europe’s elite competition by virtue of their second-place finish in the Premier League last season.

Brendan is superb, I can see us getting better and better under his guidance

And Liverpool legend Fowler is excited by the prospect of facing the likes of Madrid at Anfield after the five-time European Cup winners ended their five-year absence from the Champions League.

“I think now is a great time to be a Liverpool fan. I can honestly see us being a major, major force again pretty soon,” Fowler told Liverpool Echo.

“The squad and the staff are great together, Brendan is superb, I can see us getting better and better under his guidance.

“I can’t wait for the European nights again, they will be special. It’s great to be back in the Champions League.

“Real Madrid won’t want to come to Anfield with our fans and the atmosphere here.”
