Alberto Moreno has admitted that he had a point to prove after the defender scored his first Liverpool goal at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Spain Under-21 international dispossessed Andros Townsend before running half of the pitch and firing a low finish past Hugo Lloris to seal a 3-0 victory at White Hart Lane.

I hope it isn’t my only one as I hope to dedicate many more to Liverpool’s fans

The full-back’s superb solo goal helped banish memories of a disappointing Reds debut six days earlier after Moreno was at fault for one of Manchester City’s goals in a 3-1 defeat.

“After making my debut and losing against City I had a point to make,” Moreno told Liverpool’s website.

“When I stole the ball from Townsend and saw a way through, all I could think about was getting to their goal and scoring. I didn’t care how many metres I had to run.”

Moreno added: “If they didn’t know me before, they will from now on thanks to my goal against Tottenham.

“But I hope it isn’t my only one as I hope to dedicate many more to Liverpool’s fans.”

Moreno signed a long-term deal with Liverpool last month after the Reds agreed a reported £12m deal with Europa League winners Sevilla.
