Raheem Sterling has the potential to become a world-class player, according to England defender Gary Cahill.

The teenager was the man of the match as the Three Lions sealed a 1-0 friendly win over Norway at Wembley on Wednesday night in their first game since the World Cup.

Sterling has emerged as one of England’s brightest prospects and enjoyed a stellar campaign for Liverpool last season, scoring nine goals in 33 Premier League appearances.

Chelsea and England centre-half Cahill credited Sterling for some of the Three Lions’s best moments in their recent friendly win.

“I thought he was very lively [against Norway]. A lot of our good attacking play went through him,” Cahill said.

“Has he got the potential to become a world-class player for England? Of course. He has shown in the early days of his career that he can be if he continues to progress.”

England face Switzerland in their opening Euro 2016 World Cup qualifier on Monday night.
