Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet ‘looking forward’ to Champions League bow
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet says he is looking forward to the Reds's return to Champions League
Simon Mignolet says he is looking forward to Liverpool’s return to the Champions League.
The Belgium international played a key role as Brendan Rodgers’s side finished as Premier League runners-up last season, securing their return to Europe’s premier club competition.
The Champions League is something new for me and something to look forward to
And 26-year-old shot stopper Mignolet admitted that he is feeling more comfortable in his Liverpool surroundings after joining the Reds from Sunderland in a £9m deal last summer.
“Now I know what it is to play for Liverpool,” Mignolet told Liverpool’s website.
“Last year it was all new for me, I still had to make my competitive debut.
“Now, when I returned from the World Cup, I knew the environment, the people and the players – it feels a lot more natural this season. You come into an environment that you know, where you know what you are asked to do.
“The Champions League is something new for me and something to look forward to. Every game in the Premier League is similar to a game in the Champions League.
“Especially being from the continent, playing against big teams in Europe – maybe one from Belgium, you never know – is something to look forward to. The most important thing is to do well as a team in those games and the Premier League.”
