Steven Gerrard thanked his fans for their support after the Liverpool captain surpassed one million followers on Instagram.

The Liverpool skipper joined the photo sharing social network back in June and has since posted 87 pictures to give an insight into his life.

And the 34-year-old, who scored a penalty in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, saluted his loyal followers by posting a message on his account.

Gerrard wrote: “Thank you for the support, banter and verbal..for those who support I hope you are enjoying my Instagram account and I promise to keep sharing images of my life on and off the pitch. Respect”

Gerrard’s post came after Brendan Rodgers’ men secured an impressive victory at White Hart Lane to notch up their second win of the season.

Mario Balotelli made his debut in north London as goals from Raheem Sterling and Alberto Moreno – either side of Gerrard’s penalty – secured the win.
