Louis van Gaal will deliver at Manchester United if given time to succeed, according to Peter Schmeichel.

The Red Devils are still searching for their first Premier League win of the season after a goalless draw with Burnley in their most recent top-flight outing.

Time and patience must be given to the team and to him and to his philosophy

Van Gaal signed Angel di Maria in a British record £59.7m deal from Real Madrid last month, whilst Radamel Falcao sealed a loan move to the Red Devils last week.

And former United goalkeeper Schmeichel is confident that the 63-year-old Dutchman will transform the club’s ailing fortunes.

“I’m as disgruntled about our start as everyone else,” Schmeichel told the Mirror. “The players lost a lot of confidence and belief in themselves.

“Last season, after winning the championship the year before, they went from one extreme to another. But I know Van Gaal can deliver.

“Time and patience must be given to the team and to him and to his philosophy. He has a plan with everything he does. He has proven himself time and again.”
