Man City transfers: Roberto Martinez plays down Ross Barkley reports
Man City transfers: Everton manager Roberto Martinez is remaining tight-lipped on Ross Barkley speculation
Roberto Martinez is refusing to comment on speculation suggesting that Manchester City are ready to offer £50m for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.
The England international is currently sidelined with a medial knee ligament injury and the 20-year-old isn’t expected to return to action until mid-November.
It was a rumour and we’ll leave it there!
Barkley has been linked with Chelsea, City and Manchester United since bursting onto the Goodison Park scene, thriving under Martinez last season.
Whilst the Everton manager is taking City’s reported interest as a footballing compliment, Martinez was remaining tight-lipped on the speculation.
“I don’t think there is anything to comment on from my point of view,” Martinez said.
“It was a rumour and we’ll leave it there!”
Martinez added: “We’ve spoken about potential interest in the past, and I always say the same, we take it as a footballing compliment and we move on.
“All we want from Ross is to get him fit and get him to help the team.”
Barkley, who signed a four-year Everton deal in the summer, scored six goals in 34 Premier League appearances last season.
