Cristiano Ronaldo has moved to play down the speculation linking him with a transfer back to Manchester United by insisting that his future lies at Real Madrid.

The 29-year-old Portugal captain has been heavily linked with a surprise return to Old Trafford in recent days amid reports that he is unsettled at the Bernabeu.

My future, I will not speak about, it does not make sense

The speculation linking him with a move back to the club he left for £80m back in 2009 gathered pace last week when Louis van Gaal confirmed his interest in signing Ronaldo.

However, Ronaldo has insisted that he remains committed to the La Liga side.

“They are all speculations about my future. My future is Madrid,” said Ronaldo on Tuesday night when asked about his situation.

“I’m happy this season is going well and my future, I will not speak about, it does not make sense.”

The Ballon d’Or winner also said that he is not concerned by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s claims that the pair’s relationship is “non-existent”.

“It is an issue that is not important, what matters is Madrid,” added Ronaldo.

“It is fine for me personally, I want to help this shirt. On these topics, it is not for me to speak out.”
