Manchester United will regret selling Danny Welbeck to Arsenal, according to Terry Butcher.

The 23-year-old striker scored two second-half goals to help England beat Switzerland 2-0 in Basel, putting Roy Hodgson’s side in their qualifying group.

Welbeck completed a £16m move to Arsenal from United on the final day of the summer transfer window after being deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

And former England captain Butcher reckons the Red Devils may regret selling the promising striker to their Premier League rivals.

“Man United will regret selling Danny Welbeck to Arsenal,” Butcher told talkSPORT. “He’s got blistering pace, is a good team player and finishes very well.

“The way Arsenal play, and the chances they’ll give him, will make Man United regret their decision.

“He’s enjoying his football at the moment. Arsene Wenger must be purring because it is a superb piece of business.”

Welbeck scored nine goals in 25 Premier League appearances for United last season.
