Angel di Maria is one of the best five players in the world, according to the Argentina manager.

The 26-year-old winger scored and made two assists as Argentina were 4-2 winners against recently-crowned world champions Germany on Wednesday night.

Di Maria signed a five-year deal with Manchester United last week after the Red Devils agreed a British record £59.7m deal with Real Madrid.

And Argentina manager Martino insisted that he wasn’t surprised by Di Maria’s match-winning performance against the World Cup holders.

“Di Maria is one of the best four or five players in the world and so his performance didn’t surprise me,” Martino is quoted as saying.

Martino added that Di Maria’s absence was felt after Germany secured a 1-0 victory over Argentina in extra-time of the World Cup final in Brazil in July.

“His absence there was noticeable,” Martino added.
