Radamel Falcao has revealed that he tried to get Angel di Maria to join the Colombian at Monaco last season.

The 28-year-old Manchester United striker joined the 20-time English champions on a season-long loan deal from the Ligue 1 side on transfer deadline day earlier this month.

The South American made his Red Devils debut as Di Maria scored his first United goal to help Louis van Gaal’s side seal a 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.

And Falcao is relishing the prospect of linking up with British record signing Di Maria in the coming weeks after being a keen admirer of the winger for some time.

“He’s a key player, compliments are short in order to describe him,” Falcao told Fox Sports.

“When I was at Monaco I tried to get him to join me there.”

Falcao scored 11 goals in 20 appearances for Monaco after moving to the Ligue 1 side from Atletico Madrid in 2013.
