Dietmar Hamann says Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli needs to prove that he is a team player.

The Italy international made his Reds debut in a 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last month following a £16m move to Liverpool from AC Milan.

Balotelli left Manchester City to join the seven-time European champions in 2012 after a controversial two-and-a-half year spell at The Etihad.

Whilst Hamann accepted that Balotelli represents a bargain at £16m, the Liverpool legend questioned whether the 24-year-old will behave at Anfield.

“He still needs to prove that he is a team player, because everywhere he’s been so far, he’s caused trouble,” Hamann told Sky Sports News.

“There’s no doubt that he’s a fantastic talent, and for £16m you’ve got to say he’s a bargain.”

Hamann won the Champions League, Uefa Cup, two FA Cups and three League Cups during a seven-season stay at Liverpool.
