Mauricio Pochettino talks up Tottenham’s ‘great talent’
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino lavishes praise on Spurs match-winner Ryan Mason
Mauricio Pochettino hailed Ryan Mason as a “great talent” after the Tottenham Hotspur youngster inspired his side to a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.
The north London side appeared to be heading out of the Capital One Cup after Jorge Grant handed the Championship leaders a 62nd-minute lead at White Hart Lane.
I am happy for him, he deserved this performance
Pochettino introduced Mason in a bid to turn around the third-round tie, and the substitute made an immediate impact as he scored from 25 yards to level the cup tie.
Roberto Soldado puts Spurs ahead on the night before another Tottenham youngster, Harry Kane, set up a fourth-round meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion on the stroke of full-time.
Pochettino said: “He is a great talent from the academy.
“We need to be careful with him, last year was difficult for him with injuries, and he played on Monday with Under-21s. I am happy for him, he deserved this performance and to have scored today.”
The Spurs manager also praised his players for showing character to come from behind and end a four-game winless run.
“I am happy for the players and for the great effort,” Pochettino added.
“We never gave up, it was difficult at 1-0 but it was a great reaction, and important for our supporters to encourage us and back us. It was a great result.”
