Mauricio Pochettino: Tottenham must be aggressive at Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino wants Spurs to be more aggressive at Arsenal on Saturday
Mauricio Pochettino wants his Tottenham Hotspur side to be more aggressive against Arsenal in the north London derby at The Emirates on Saturday.
The Lilywhites are hoping to win their first Premier League game in three attempts after a stalemate at Sunderland and a 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion at White Hart Lane last weekend.
I have played a lot of derbies when I was a player. Now I’m excited to be against Arsenal
Spurs ended a four-game winless run in all competitions courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in the third round of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night.
And Pochettino, who succeeded Tim Sherwood as Spurs manager last May, is looking forward to his first taste of the north London derby.
“I know it’s a very important game for our supporters, a tough game,” Pochettino told his pre-match media conference at Hotspur Way on Thursday.
“We need to be aggressive and show what we can do. I have played a lot of derbies when I was a player. Now I’m excited to be against Arsenal.”
Tottenham have lost their last three games at Emirates Stadium, with Olivier Giroud scoring a 23rd-minute in a 1-0 home victory last season.
